Installation Methods

Commercial Flat Roof Installation

While choosing the appropriate membrane require careful thought, climatic considerations and expert advice, it is only half of the roof selection process. Of equal importance is selecting the proper installation method. Environmental factors such as wind-uplift ratings, drainage requirements, compatible insulations and building height are also important when choosing the installation method.

Sherriff-Goslin recommends and implements 3 time-tested installation methods. Each method has its own strengths, weaknesses and benefits. Sherriff-Goslin removes the guess work and can recommend the installation method that is right for you.

Ballasted

Ballasted roof systems offer fast and easy installation and are considered the economical choice for large, unobstructed rooftops. Ballasted roofing systems are often found on retail stores, strip malls and warehouses. This system features a loose-laid membrane that is covered and held in place by a 'ballast' made up of river stone, gravel or pavers. The ballast helps to shield the water-proof membrane from the wind, rain and sun. There is also evidence that suggests that a ballasted roof system may offer similar energy-efficient/reflective qualities as those offered by light-colored membranes, which can really help reduce the building's cooling costs.

Mechanically Attached

Lightweight and easy-to-maintain, mechanically attached roof systems are a viable choice in areas that experience mild, moderate or even high winds. An upgrade to a ballasted system, a Sherriff-Goslin mechanically attached roofing system is made from pre-assembled plates and fasteners that result in a superior roof and offer lightning fast installation times. Mechanically attached roofing system are the most widely installed in the commercial roofing industry.

Fully Adhered

The fully adhered roof systems is considered the pinnacle in roofing system technology. Offering superior durability, wind uplift ratings and installation flexibility, a fully adhered roof is ideal for high elevations and structures exposed to high wind conditions. Sherriff-Goslin fully adhered roofs  implement a variety adhesives that are suitable for your high-wind application. Adhesives frequently include bonding adhesives, water-based and asphalt-based products, cold-applied adhesives and two-part, low-rise adhesives that provide the industry's highest wind uplift ratings.
